WordPress was originally created in 2003 as a blogging tool, designed for users without any knowledge of web design, so that they could create their own website in order to express themselves online. It’s come a long way.
We use WordPress, now the most popular web development tool on the planet, for a few reasons; its fast, its remarkably easy to use, and its incredibly versatile, but there are skeptics. I’m often asked “If you build my website using WordPress, will it do everything I need it to do?”
The answer is almost always the same. “Yes.”
In 2004, WordPress added support for something called “plugins.” Plugins are tools that can add functionality to a WordPress site, and those tools can do just about anything. In fact, there are currently over 50,000 plugins available. All designed to bring a new bit of functionality to your WordPress site.
So, what exactly can WordPress plugins do? Here is a small sample:
- Create an online store, complete with credit card transactions, inventory management, and custom product displays
- Sell exclusive access to specific content on your site, like premium articles, videos and more
- Ad network integration to quickly and easily place ads on your site for added revenue without the trouble of ad sales
- Live customer support chat
- Beautiful photo galleries and photo carousels
- Mailing list signup and management
- Calendar tools, to create internal events, book appointments, and more
- Search engine optimization
- Social media integration
- Clear, simple contact forms
- Sweepstakes, quizzes and contests
And so much more. We’ve never received a request that couldn’t be met. Your dream website really can become a reality.
